Environmental graphics are the design discipline that takes a brand into physical space. A signage system that guides visitors through a building. Office wall graphics that communicate the culture to every person who walks through the door. Exhibition graphics that make a trade show presence look considered rather than assembled the night before.
Physical design has consequences that digital design does not. A wayfinding sign that is unclear cannot be updated with a hotfix. Environmental graphics that do not work at scale cannot be zoomed out. The technical requirements for large-format print, dimensional signage, and vinyl application are specific and unforgiving, and getting them wrong is expensive.
Wayfinding as a design problem
Wayfinding design is not just sign design. It is the problem of helping people understand where they are and where they need to go, using visual language that is consistent with the brand environment they are moving through. We approach wayfinding from the user experience outward: mapping the typical journeys before designing the signs, not the reverse.
Scale and production
We produce all environmental graphic files at the correct scale, with the correct colour profiles, and with material specifications documented for the production partners and contractors who will implement the work. We can provide vendor introductions for large-format print and sign fabrication on request.
